No account managers, no pyramid, no junior staff learning on your environment. Whoever reads your billing data writes the report and sits on the call — and that stays true as we grow, because it's the reason the work is worth buying.
Background
Symmetriq was founded by Kevin C., a senior infrastructure engineer based in Sydney with around ten years across on-premises and cloud infrastructure — data centres and hypervisors through to public cloud platforms, and most of the migration work in between.
That's the whole reason these two services sit together. Cost and security get treated as separate departments in large organisations and as the same problem everywhere else. Most of the companies we work with are in the second group.
That span matters more than it sounds. A lot of Australian mid-market spend is still hybrid — a rack that never got decommissioned, a licence model designed for on-premises paying cloud prices, a workload lifted and shifted without being resized. Consultants who only know cloud walk past that money.
How we work
Principle 01
No reseller agreements, referral fees or vendor sponsorship. Nobody pays us to recommend a product, which is the only reason an independent report is worth reading.
Principle 02
You know the fee before we start and it doesn't move. No hourly creep, no change requests for questions you should have been able to ask.
Principle 03
Assessment work needs no write access to anything. Implementation is a separate engagement with separate permissions and a separate conversation.
Principle 04
If your spend is too small for an audit to pay for itself, or you need a formal assessor rather than us, you'll hear that on the first call.
Limits
Not an IRAP assessor. We prepare organisations to meet the Essential Eight and to answer underwriter and procurement questions honestly. We don't issue certifications, and anyone telling you they can certify you against the Essential Eight is worth a second look.
Not a managed service provider. No helpdesk, no 24/7 phone line, no per-user monthly contract. If that's what you need, we'll say so — and we're happy to review the proposal you've been given by one.
Not a licensed financial adviser. Cost findings are engineering findings. Decisions about multi-year commitments are yours and your CFO's.
Not a large firm, and not trying to become one quickly. Symmetriq is early, and deliberately senior-only — we would rather turn work away than staff it with someone learning on your environment. You get direct access to the engineer doing the work and no overhead priced into the fee. In exchange you're not buying a brand name. If that trade doesn't suit your procurement process, that's a fair position and we'd rather know early.
